About the Position: The U.S. Army Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment Activity (USATA) has the primary organizational responsibility of performing the test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) calibration and repair mission for the Army, DOD claimants, and other customers.

Duties

Prepares calibration reports for customer use, providing specific information such as assigned values, corrections factors, and measurement uncertainty for instruments being calibrated. Assists and advises users in the instrument application, measurement accuracy, and recommended calibration requirements in support of their mission. Implements, adapts, modifies, and occasionally develops technical procedures required by changing user or equipment requirements. Interfaces with user, manufacturer, and activity engineers as necessary to clarify questionable areas concerning the use and accuracy of instruments or nonstandard TMDE. Selects, applies, and interprets electronic principles and practices to collect, reduce, display, and analyze calibration data for a wide variety of complex general and special purpose TMDE. Identifies and documents errors in existing procedures and provides information used for the development of technical documents used for TMDE calibration and certification.

Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission. The duties and responsibilities of this position (do) or (do not) require the incumbent to exercise judgment in making or recommending a government decision or in taking or recommending a government action in regard to contracting, procurement, auditing, or other responsibilities in which the decision or action has an economic impact on the interests of any nonfederal enterprise.
