Duties
Obtain medical information from Inpatient, Outpatient, Ambulatory Procedure Visit, and/or Observation Records to initiate billing activities.
Generate bills for inpatient hospitalization, outpatient visits, radiology/laboratory procedures, ambulatory procedure visits, observation care, and pharmaceutical supplies.
Maintain accountability of claims being processed to ensure bills are processed within established timeframes.
Correspond in person and telephonically with patients, insurance companies, hospital personnel, law enforcement agencies, etc., to obtain or verify information required in connection with processing of Medical Affirmative Claims.
Respond to Congressional inquiries concerning the status of requests being processed in a timely manner.
Serve as the primary Notary for the office.
Utilize automated computer systems to retrieve specific clinical data to verify insurance/administrative information, and abstract pertinent administrative data.
Enter pertinent information into an ongoing fiscal year ledger that produces a cumulative billing amount of Medical Affirmative Claims.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Financial Management Level 1 certification is a condition of employment for this position. Failure to obtain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.
- Must be willing and able to serve as Public Notary for the office.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience which includes using automated systems to retrieve medical claims data, verifying insurance information for billing purposes, and generating hospital bills. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
