Duties

As a Public Health Analyst (Issues Management) you will: Coordinate with subject matter experts to develop and edit written communication to respond to Congressional/Executive Branch inquiries and correspondence requesting information regarding Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strategies, programs, and responses to health problems; data; and general information requested about public health issues. Provide analysis and synthesis in support of those responsible for answering Congressional and constituent requests, including controlled correspondence and other immediate requests that are highly sensitive and complex, and ensure that responses are consistent with the organization's missions and goals. Oversee special projects and initiatives by analyzing problems, issues, or agency programs and policies to address complex situations or to improve policies or procedures related to correspondence document management. Cultivate and maintain relationships with external public and private partners and other organizational units within CDC, including other national centers, and offices within the CDC Immediate Office of the Director. Use risk management principles to analyze policy matters and public health issues on public health correspondence and other documents. Inventory, track, and summarize and disseminate critical information and progress reports for coordination across CDC. Manage the review and clearance of critical agency correspondence, documents, and responses, including Reports to Congress and responses to HHS and White House data calls. Work independently or lead informal work teams to organize and direct activities, set and monitor objectives, and provide advice, guidance and direction.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: analyzing public health issues and develop responses to inquiries from internal and external partners, developing materials for briefings/meetings; and drafting responses for leadership and interagency requests for information. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
