This role is at the USPTO's Patent Trial and Appeal Board, which advises on intellectual property policy and drives technological innovation. The Chief Clerk, reporting to the Board Executive, oversees the execution and strategic planning of patent trials and appeals at the main office in Alexandria and satellite offices in Detroit, Dallas, Denver, and Silicon Valley.

The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia.
TELEWORK: This position is eligible for maximum telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.

Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a 14.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience in managing and directing administrative processes within a legal or court environment, including the development and implementation of case management systems and the oversight of administrative procedures related to trials, appeals, and other legal proceedings.
Experience in supervising and managing a team of professionals, including setting priorities, evaluating performance, providing guidance, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and goals. This includes handling supervisory responsibilities such as resolving complaints, recommending disciplinary actions, and fostering an environment that supports equal opportunity and effective mission accomplishment.
Experience in effectively communicating with senior leadership, external stakeholders, and the public. This includes managing hearing room requirements, coordinating vendor services, and overseeing the implementation and management of technology to support hearing and trial processes.
