About the Position: This is a PERMANENT Range Technician position located with the U.S. Army Installation Command, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility, and Security at Fort Jackson, SC

Duties

Ensure enforcement of the Fort Jackson range and training safety programs and that range and terrain safety operation briefings are conducted for all personnel involved in organizing, supervising, or controlling training. Operate the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) on a government computer and local area network (LAN). Serve as a Range Technician on heavily used live-fire ranges and training areas for the Directorate of Plans, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS), Range Division, Operations Branch. Review, monitor, and inspect ranges, training areas, impact area gates, facilities. maneuvers land, and live fire through patrol and on site inspection of ranges, firing points, and units and activities on the range/training area complex. Monitor the issuance, opening, check fire, cease fire, and closing of all live fire ranges. artillery, MLRS. and mortar firing points, landing zones, training facilities, and training areas through operation/communications via multiple radio nets.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a US government motor vehicle operator's identification card (OF 346) within 30 days after hire.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain equipment operator's qualification record (DA 348) within 30 days after hire.
  • Incumbent is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day (must be able to work on rotating shifts), 7 days per week operation, to include holidays.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Accident Avoidance Training; receive and maintain card with issue/renewal dates within 30 days after hire.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete initial US government vehicle training to include use of emergency lights, 4x4 operation, situational vehicle operations provided by US Army within 30 days after hire and semi-annual vehicle refresher training.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting of up to 40lbs may be required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Information ManagementTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
