About the Position: This position is located in the Regulatory Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, LA. This position serves as the Environmental Protection Specialist to assist and support the Chief of Environmental Analysis and Support Section. The responsibilities include planning, managing, documenting and coordinating comprehensive studies related to environmental studies and support for related projects.

Duties

Interpreting and complying with environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Determining the techniques and resources that will be used to evaluate environmental issues. Preparing work statements and study cost estimates. Documenting results of investigations and related information in appropriated format. Preparing and/or directing the preparation of Environment Impacts Statements and Environmental Assessments. Coordinating and conducting progress review meetings to review proposals, exchange information, and or resolve disagreements. Answering inquiries from internal/external contacts relevant to studies and investigations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This temporary position requires a one-year trial probationary period.

Specialized Experience Statement GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which include: 1) Performing field visits to gather environmental information to meet study objectives, 2) Monitoring investigation and study progress in accordance with milestone objectives, and 3) Analyzing and preparing documents pertaining action proposals, statements and assessments and/or master plans. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Environmental Document PreparationEnvironmental Project and Program Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
