You will serve as a Plumber at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC, which is dedicated to recruiting the best young men and women possible, training and transforming them and making/sustaining Marines imbued with our core values and the ideal of selfless service to the nation. The duty station is Parris Island, SC.

Duties

You will install, modify, and repair plumbing systems. You will work on water and gas distribution systems, swimming pools, sewage collection, and disposal systems and equipment. You will install and repair water closets, urinals, tubs, fire sprinklers and hydrant systems. You will lay out, cut, bends, assemble, and install pipes, fittings, and fixtures to construct or maintain systems. You will work from blueprints, work orders and oral assignments. You will plan and lay out the proper routing, placement, slope, and fall of systems. You will determine proper parts such as pipe size, couplings, elbows, unions, traps, and valves. You will bore holes in walls, floor, ceilings, and other obstructions to permit passage of pipe. You will install, repair, and test commodes, urinals, lavatories, tubs, fire sprinkler systems. You will repair or replace flushometers, temperature control regulating valves, and mixing valves determining whether parts should be repaired or replaced with new parts. You will operate sewer rod equipment. You will cut, bend, thread, and assemble pipe and fittings using various types of shop machinery and equipment. You will make up various kinds of liquid and gas tight joints such as threaded, flange bolted, soldered, and silver soldered joints. You will make lead joints where appropriate. Uses levels, rules, plumb bob, squares, pressure gauges, and various other hand tools. You will do some work on sewage collection systems, including pumps. You will maintain swimming pool, including filters, pumps, and chlorination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to lift up to 40 lbs
  • You may be required work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must obtain and maintain a government operator’s permit for vehicles up to 1 ½ tons.
  • You must obtain and maintain a South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control approved certificate as an Asbestos Operations and Maintenance worker.
  • You will be required to perform work, which is dirty, dusty and greasy.
  • You may occasionally make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require you to perform rotating shift work.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a Plumber as demonstrated by experience working under normal supervision using knowledge of how various supply disposal, and utility systems and equipment, such as water and gas systems, and water closets and using accepted trade methods and techniques to perform the following Installing and repairing water closets, urinals, and tubs; Laying out pipe and sections of piping systems including determining the routing, placement, slope, and fall of systems; Cutting, bending, assembling, and installing pipes, fittings, and fixtures to construct or maintain systems; Working from blueprints, work orders and oral assignments.; Using prescribeed pipe size, couplings, elbows, unions, traps, and valves; Repairing and testing commodes, urinals, lavatories, and tubs; Repairing or replacing temperature control regulating valves and mixing valves; Cutting, bending, threading, and assembling pipe and fittings using various types of shop machinery and equipment and methods and techniques, such as wiping and pouring lead joints, seating equipment, and installing any combination of couplings, unions, and joints needed for the proper operation of the system; Using use of tools and equipment of the plumbing trade such, hand tools, power tools, rulers, plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, squares, and pressure gauges; Making up various kinds of liquid and/or gas tight joints such as threaded, flange bolted, soldered, and silver soldered joints.
