You will serve as a COMPUTER SCIENTIST in the LINUX SYSTEMS BRANCH (N622), INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVIES DIVISION (N62) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will perform as a system administrator for Linux/Unix based scientific oceanographic production information systems and a Linux/Unix based server and desktop class system administrator servicing specialized systems.
You will implement diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques and skills to ensure computer system stability in a very complex multiprogramming distributed processing environment.
You will manage specialized integrated capabilities that may include high-performance processing, high-availability virtualization, data receipt capabilities, integrated data storage, or systems management technologies.
You will consult with customers and partners to identify and specify software and/or hardware requirements and configurations for production and dissemination constructs.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirements (see Education section), your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
*Experience utilizing and configuring Linux/Unix based operating systems for enterprise-wide systems management;
*Experience developing technical specifications for user requirements;
*Experience developing scripts for operating system (OS) management and installations;
*Experience implementing command specific requirements relating to information assurance including information technology (IT) security certification and accreditation requirements.

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
There are no educational substitutions for basic education requirements. Basic education requirements are required for this position.
