About the Position: This position is located within the Plans, Training, Mobilization & Security department at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Cavazos, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties as the background check coordinator and the personnel security investigation assistant responsible for initiating, coordinating, and tracking initial and periodic reverification background checks for healthcare personnel.
Duties
Review information in the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) to assess background investigation history to determination if a new investigation is required and to verify security clearances.
Conduct in/out-processing for Soldiers, Civilians, and other personnel assigned to the organization.
Coordinate initial and periodic reverification background checks, including Childcare background checks for healthcare personnel.
Evaluate reports and other records on personnel to provide written recommendations on fitness determinations.
Provide security in-briefings, including advising new personnel of reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A personnel security investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3, Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) performing initial and periodic verification of background checks for personnel such as initiating, coordinating, and tracking, 2) applying established procedures to perform a wide range of personnel security program functions, 3) utilizing automated systems to maintain personnel security investigations, and 4) capturing both electronic and manual fingerprints for submission. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
