About the Position: The Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) provides protection, welfare, and safety of the Garrison community. Fort Cavazos rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove.
Duties
Determine if employees, contractor and/or other visitors meet the authorized entry criteria of the installation.
Perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminal(s) to screen visitors
Transcribe data using specialized codes in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Authenticate issued badges and/or passes in accordance with installation regulation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- The skills of a fully qualified typist are required.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC Terminals.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as mission essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) during Inclement weather conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using automated systems to register visitors and reviewing identification to grant and/or deny access to restricted areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
