About the Position: Serves as a Police Officer (Conservation Law Enforcement Officer) for the Ft. Leavenworth Police Department. This position requires graduation from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy unless exempt.

Duties
Enforce Federal, State and installation fish and wildlife regulations.
Conduct investigations into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws.
Develop evidence in support of legal charges against Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws.
Conduct surveillance and physical inspections of perimeter barriers.
Enforce jurisdictional limits of restricted areas of water and land boundaries.
Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol and issue citations, tickets and warnings.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Medical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical and mental health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and/or maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- You must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless you have a current approved waiver/exemption or are grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Must successfully graduate from the US Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Course or USAMPS Conservation Law Enforcement Officer approved training within one year of assignment.
- This position requires wearing a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Incumbent is required to qualify semiannually with their assigned weapons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) enforcing conservation rules and regulations related to environmental, fish and/or wildlife laws OR (2) performing law enforcement work with arrest or apprehension authority to include enforcing traffic laws, issuing traffic tickets, and questioning or apprehending violators of federal or local laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
