About the Position: This position is with the Nutrition Care Division, Production and Service Branch located at Tripler Army Medical Center, on the Island of Oahu, HI. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Maintain control of inpatient meal orders and room service menus. Input data into a nutrition software program. Receive orders for early, late, and hold trays from ward staff to ensure all providers have proper meals for patient care. Provide cross coverage in the Call Center as needed fielding patient diet calls. Collect objective data from medical records including patient'sdiagnosis, laboratory test results, anthropometric measures, medical history, and medication. Evaluate individual patient's understanding of nutrition counseling to assess their potential for compliance and ability to choose an adequate diet.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position requires rotating shift work, between the hours of 5:00 am and 10:00 pm, to include split days off, and work on evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Work schedules include: 0530-1400; 0730-1530, 1000-1830.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) working in the food service industry in a hospital or clinic setting; 2) reviewing selective menus prepared for patients for conformance with diet orders; and 3) making menu adjustments directed by provider for therapeutic and basic nutritional needs. OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Nursing Assistant, Nutrition, or Dietetics or related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
