About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Surgery, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Duties
Follow pre-operative nursing care plan in preparing patient and the Operating Room.
Screen and transport patients between hospital units and the Operating Room.
Maintain sterile environment and aseptic technique for surgical procedures.
Support all surgical procedures and provide the proper instrumentation by anticipating the surgeon's needs during the procedure.
Prepare supplies, set and adjust medical equipment for use during procedures (i.e. microscope, electric coagulator, defibrillator).
Assemble instrument sets and peel pack items following instructions for use (IFU).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires the incumbent to have successfully completed an accredited Operating Room Technician school course.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; 2) preparing equipment and supplies based on patients specific surgical procedure(s); 3) assisting with the sterilization of surgical instruments and maintaining a sterile operating room; AND 4) assisting surgeon(s) during surgical procedures.
