This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates. About the Position: Serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist for the Tooele Army Depot (TEAD).

Duties

Verify proper labeling of hazardous waste to determine proper storage or disposal. Conduct site inspections at hazardous waste storage facilities to identify hazards. Determine the proper protective clothing to carry out hazardous assignments. Analyze hazardous inspection findings and recommend changes to eliminate hazards. Maintain inventory of hazardous materials on hand to include location, quantity, and type. Maintain required inspection records for hazardous waste accountability Interpret waste analysis and develop waste profiles for waste streams generated. Maintains records of all hazardous waste generated by the organization and its disposition. Sample waste containers in accordance with regulatory requirements to determine contents. Interpret sampling results and report to governing agencies. Input data through multiple platforms to submit and verify sampling results. Correct environmental deficiencies based on the Environmental Management System. Implement environmental considerations into operations based on EPA, State and DoD policy

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must successfully complete training in hazardous waste management procedures within six (6) months after date of appointment. Must also participate in annual review of this training.

OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Environmental Protection Specialist position.x Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09) OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Environmental Protection Specialist position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
