This National Guard position is for a PERSONNEL SECURITY SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D2481000 and is part of the J2, National Guard.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION NTE 1 YEAR OF APPOINTMENT.
This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants.
Duties
As a PERSONNEL SECURITY SPECIALIST, GS-0080-09, you will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist, responsible for processing personnel security clearances and all tasks related to the adjudication of personnel suitability case files.
Requirements

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- Attend the ARNG Security Manager Course within 12 months of hire.
- Obtain the Security Professional Certification(s) within 24 months of hire.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance with eligibility to access sensitive compartmented information (TS-SCI) within one year of appointment.
- Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
- This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
- This is an Army National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership.
Qualifications
Military Grades: Enlisted and Officer
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels. Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7. Comprehensive knowledge of personnel security concepts, principles, and application for the purpose of administering the states personnel security programs, determining appropriate actions to take for violations of adjudicative guidelines, and adjudicating clearance determinations. Thorough knowledge of analytical methods used to evaluate application packets for security clearance eligibility, identification and corrective actions of derogatory information, resolution of conflicting information.
