This position is part of the Security and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.
Duties
Monitor paper flow through the Bailing System to ensure a progressive and continuous flow of scrap paper through the system.
Prepare publications to be mailed by contractor as separate shipments.
Check for improper warehousing, infestation, deterioration, improper identifications, mixed stocks, pilferage, and similar conditions.
Process and verify quantities and condition of materials and equipment.
Complete and maintain log of incoming shipments and conduct final checking of outgoing shipments.
Requirements
- You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
- Selectee may be required to pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Selectee must undergo a background investigation for a Secret Clearance.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify

To minimally qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Printing Plant Worker (Materials Handler). Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, Job Element #1 to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a PPW (Materials Handler) without more than normal supervision. These duties require: skill in working in a production/warehouse environment performing a wide variety of materials handling activities, including operating a forklift in the loading, unloading and movement of materials into, out of, or within the warehouse.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
