The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Combat Arms Instructor and first-level supervisor performing all weapons training qualification for all United States Air Force Academy personnel and the United States Air Force and United States Space Force Front Range Bases in accordance with Memorandum of Agreements.

Duties

Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced training/administrative levels of Combat Arms Instruction courses. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Manages and oversees the installation ground weapons training and maintenance program; serves as an instructor and inspects ground weapons. Represents the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates live firing qualification training. Security Forces Staff Augmentee.

Qualifications

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: High School Diploma or GED is desired. Graduation from the Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Apprentice Course and Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Craftsmen Course is requirement upon hiring. (Reference AFI 36-2226). Must maintain standards in accordance with AFI 31-117, Armin and Use of Force by Air Force Personnel and Personnel Reliability Assurance Program. This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs. This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release. This is a Centrally Managed Position in the 1712 series, Security Field. This is a Supervisory position. A one-year supervisor probation period may be required. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, GS 1712 series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of applicable AF or Federal, and DoD rules regulations, instructions, practices, principles, policies, and procedures related to Arms, Ammunition, and Equipment (AA&E), Occupational Safety and Health, the handling Hazardous Materials, safe range operations, and security or personnel and resources. Knowledge of weapons/combat arms program and objectives, and military/ civilian security forces training program processes to develop comprehensive training programs and identify training requirements. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B or J.D., if related, with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of principles and techniques of instruction used in combat arms weapons training and firing range instruction. Knowledge of combat arms facilities management, including maintenance, classrooms, firing range structures, munitions buildings, and weapons vaults. 2. Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of small arms and maintenance requirements. Knowledge of Air Force supply and equipment system. 3. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to train and evaluate instructors and students in the classroom on instruction techniques of assigned weapons. Ability to provide direct budget input. Ability to establish effective working relationships with SF branch/section chiefs, contributing to a cooperative work environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. 4. Knowledge of applicable AF, Federal, and DoD law enforcement and security rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security. Knowledge of SF augmentee procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response and dispatch. 5. Knowledge of training aids and devices used in training programs, including the skill and ability to demonstrate operation, maintenance, and combat employment of all weapons used in the course of instruction. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses. 6. Must qualify and maintain qualification on applicable weapon systems IAW local SOPs and singed agreements with USAFA. Must be able to project voice in outdoor areas and be heard by 100 plus trainees and/or students. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
