You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the RESEARCH & ENGINEERING GROUP, SYSTEMS ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will carry out assignments in support of projects related to Primary Level Metrology, these include the development and testing of new or special analytical measuring systems. You will use technical knowledge of theories, principles, techniques, and metrology methods, available engineering data, and specification, combined with an understanding of the system concepts, to isolate, and resolve metrology measurement problems. You will serve as the technical expert in calibration techniques and ensure customer workload is being done in an accurate and timely manner. You will maintain, analyze and update statistical data and control charts, ensuring that a quality process for all measurement systems in the assigned area is in place. You will maintain and update measurement system descriptions and calibration procedure documentation for the assigned area. You will prepare technical reports and memoranda outlining test problems, approaches taken, data accumulated, conclusions reached, and recommendations made. You will coordinate with and assist metrology engineering personnel in defining specific problems such as repetitive equipment failures or malfunctions. You will provide continuing technical expertise to engineering, technician, and maintenance personnel on the operation, and maintenance of precision measurement equipment.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Ability to follow detailed instructions as defined in calibration procedures 2. Strong mechanical aptitude 3. Ability to troubleshoot and fault isolate to the root cause 4. Familiar with precision instrumentation and test stands 5. Experience with viscosity, flow dynamics, and liquid flow calibrations 6. Strong understanding of statistical data and analysis 7. Familiar with using Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel 8. Strong work ethics, integrity, and team player 9. Ability to perform acceptance and bench testing of calibration procedures 10. Familiar with metrology and calibration concepts. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
OR

Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
