About the Position: The incumbent performs paralegal duties in support of the Army Support Activity and Senior Mission Command, JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Duties

Provides legal assistance to attorney staff in evaluations, development, and prosecution of investigations, hearings, appeals, and litigation cases referred for legal resolution. Researches applicable case law to support government positions at trial. Analyzes given factual situations; interprets the applicable law and regulations; and provides advice to promote the effective, timely and precise administration of military justice and administrative elimination actions. Receives and reviews Military Justice Reporter advance sheets, Army Regulations, messages of concern, training memoranda, etc.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) reviewing case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration; (2) Searches for and summarizes relevant law reviews, published studies, financial reports, and similar materials for use of attorneys in the preparation of opinions, briefs, and other legal documents; (3) prepare digests of selected decisions or opinions which incorporate legal references and analyses of precedents involved in areas of well-defined and settled points of law; (4) interview potential witnesses and prepare summary interview reports for the attorney's review; (5) note any deficiencies in case materials (e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements) and additional issues or other matters requiring investigation, and request correction of deficiencies or personally conducts limited investigations at the pre-trial stage; (6) prepare and organize statistical charts and photographic exhibits; (7) verify citations and legal references on prepared legal documents; (8) prepare summaries of testimony and depositions; and (9)drafts and edits nonlegal memoranda, research reports, and correspondence relating to cases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as a master's in paralegal studies. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administrative LawAudit ReportingDecision SupportManages and Organizes Information Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
