This position is located in the consolidated Mid-South Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC) - Smyrna, TN. The incumbent serving in one of five possible departments (Billing, Accounts Management, Insurance Verification Administrative Services and First Party Division). The CPAC is a regionally consolidated business entity to enhance revenue operations throughout the VHA and industry best practices.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The purpose of this position is to provide office and clerical support and assistance to the organizational unit. The position is part of a temporary "pool" of positions that support the needs of the organization through staffing shortages, extended absences of permanent employees, or when reviews/assistance is needed to support the overall success of the assigned Department. Performs clerical duties with a minimum amount of technical assistance on a wide variety of forms, reports, correspondence, and miscellaneous documents. Extracts information from data and processes work from draft and/or verbal instructions and establishes and maintains and ledgers. Performs health insurance billing under the direct supervision of a Billing Supervisor and/or Billing Manager. Reviews electronic correspondences to appropriate action request and the correspondence is electronically returned with appropriate action code. Other administrative work deemed necessary the Billing Supervisor or Billing Manager. Performs follow up of unpaid health insurance claims with the third-party payer to affect monetary recovery. Appropriately documents the follow up using various software programs designed for workflow. Performs auditing functions within Accounts Receivable to "activate" reimbursable insurance claims that begins the aging process. Performs clerical duties to take paper documents and input information into software programs that provides for electronic review. Perform all duties as assigned. To Qualify For This Position You Must Have One Of Following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-4 in Federal service. Specialized experience is possessing of business office concepts regulations, public laws, and directives that support the revenue program, such as eligibility, income screening, and release of information, ensuring proper identification and processing of reimbursable insurance cases, and to the proper collection of first party debts. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Possess (4) years above high school education. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at GS-5 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is performed mainly in a sedentary manner, however, walking, standing, reaching and bending are required. Requires periods of interaction at a computer terminal.
