You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER (SHEET METAL MECHANIC) in the Structural Shop (Code 920), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will coordinate the required system tagouts with the work control and release function, packaging and assembly of work documentation and materials.
You will apply efficient application of work areas and trade skills, material delivery deadlines, and tracking material being worked in the inside shops.
You will recognize material that is in jeopardy and determine the necessary actions to reorder material or obtain it from alternate sources.
You will compile work packages that consist of Task Group Instructions (TGI's), drawings, technical requirements, and shop processes/procedures that are derived from pertinent standards, instructions, and drawings.
You will prepare material request forms as necessary.
You will maintain files of manufactures' catalogs, parts lists, material specification, and similar documents.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination.
- This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- This position requires that the selectee be able to work in small and/or confined spaces.
- This position is a temporary promotion not to exceed one year.

The ability to utilize the scope of work packaging planner functions necessary to package and assemble the task packages needed to accomplish work.
The ability to establish material, tools and efficient application in-the trade area of a Sheet Metal Mechanic to accomplish work.
The ability to work the project schedule in order to obtain all TGI's, tag outs, authorizations, special tooling, test requirements, and material needed to support accomplish of a task.
The ability to work planner reviews TGI's, related instructions and drawings, and itemizes list of materials needed, and if necessary, initiates requests for material needed while eliminating backlogs and revise material requirements as necessary.
The ability to special material tracking skills in dealing with various departments and information systems in the Shipyard in determining locations, status, and alternate sources for material.
