Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Automotive & Aerospace Centers of Excellence and Expertise. The selection will be made, and oversight of this position will be maintained by the Detroit Field Office, but the physical location of these positions will remain in duty location selected.

Duties

This is an entry level developmental position. The incumbent provides routine clerical support to the organization under close supervision. This position starts at a salary of $39,576.00 (GS-05, Step 1) to $57,354.00 (GS-06, Step 10) with promotion potential to $63,733 (GS-7 Step 10). In this position, you will strengthen the Department's ability to protect the homeland by joining a valuable team of administrative professionals. Typical work assignments include: Assisting in preparing press releases and in planning for public affairs campaigns, e.g., arranges for meeting space and drafts handouts. Assisting in preparing budget requests by compiling data and preparing justification statements based on information provided by senior Mission Support Specialist. Ensures receipt of all items ordered, have been met for paying vouchers and invoices. Assisting users in the organization with software, hardware, and automation problems, as requested. Establishing, maintains, and monitors a variety of records and statistical data regarding the administrative services provided. Assisting with the annual physical inventory of non-expendable property and equipment, notes discrepancies, and maintains documentation. Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: - Processing property and assisting with the completion of forms and files - Entering and processing information into appropriate processing system - Performing mission/administrative support duties Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: - Assisting users in the organization with software, hardware, and automation problems, as requested. - Preparing workload and productivity reports, gathering, and compiling data to be used in evaluating areas for process improvements; generating various management reports - Establishing, maintaining, and monitoring a variety of records and statistical data regarding the administrative services provided. Education Substitution GS-05: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite may substitute for specialized experience at this level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Education Substitution GS-06: There is not an educational substitution at the GS-06 grade level. Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages. If your education is described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours, then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 08/28/2024. In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process.
