A successful candidate in this position evaluates the M&O Contractor's performance in the following functional areas: weapon quality assurance, weapon quality control mechanisms and systems; and non-weapons related quality assurance functions. Production Operations involve the oversight of SNL manufacture of state-of-the-art electronics, explosives, and electro-mechanical components both internal to Sandia and at external Sandia suppliers.

Duties

As a General Engineer you will: Monitors new weapons systems in the development phase to determine what components require NNSA acceptance, and the appropriate level of survey coverage. Provides oversight of NAP 401.1, Weapon Quality Policy and related quality management systems at SNL to include but not limited to: design through production engineering, supplier quality, weapons quality assurance for all product realization life-cycle, meteorology services, technology development, program planning, weapon component manufacturing, and test equipment design. Conducts detailed assessments of safety software or weapon quality assurance operations and oversight to identify both weaknesses and best practices. Leads NNSA weapon quality related activities to resolve complex weapon production and/or quality assurance problems and to assure that schedules and requirements are achieved in the best economic and logistical interests of the Government.

NQ-03 or GS-12/13. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience conducting at least 3 of the following activities: 1. Experience evaluating design or manufacturing processes with respect to established industrial and/or government standards for quality. 2. Hands-on experience inspecting electrical and mechanical components to their manufactured specifications and engineering drawings. 3. Experience teaming with others to resolve complex production problems identified through quality assurance and quality control practices. Education

All applicants must meet the basic requirements of the General Engineer occupational series. Transcripts or other proof of required education MUST be included in application package.

General Engineer Series 0801:

Degree: professional engineering. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR;

Combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. There are alternate methods to meeting the engineering educational requirement (e.g., holding current professional engineering registration, having passed the EIT examination, or having completed specified academic courses or a related degree).
