This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Branch Chief(s) in the prioritization, assignment, validation, and completion of Action Officer Tasks that develop, refine and implement the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) priorities.

Duties

As a SPACE AND MISSILE DEFENSE ANALYST at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Assisting in planning and programming the operations of the space and missile defense branch(es), including assigning managerial, technical, and administrative tasks to subordinate staff members (military and civilian Joint Staff Action Officers and civilian /contractor employees) who support the synchronization of space, integrated air and missile defense, and meteorology/oceanography programs across the Department. Assigning actions to subordinate staff members as a delegated duty from the Branch Chiefs. Providing comprehensive leadership, guidance, policy direction, and ensures thorough analysis is performed on policy actions of the branch(es). Defining, establishing, and directing space, integrated air and missile defense, and meteorology/oceanography focus on challenging and highly complex projects/programs. Identifying and resolving highly complex problems that cross organizational boundaries and promulgates solutions.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: Identifying Department of Defense (DoD) space, missile defense, and Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) missions, operations, policies, and skill to achieve high profile and sensitive assignments; Reviewing strategic planning and budgeting related to space, missile defense, and METOC programs and the federal budget process; Conducting complex analysis of issues and identifying and proposing solutions to leadership based on breadth, importance, and/or critical nature, when previous research and study techniques are either unavailable or not directly applicable; Identifying the processes for the development of Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) instructions and Joint Publications/Doctrine. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
