National Nuclear Security Administration enhances global security through nuclear deterrence, nonproliferation, counterterrorism, naval nuclear propulsion and national leadership in science, technology, and engineering. NNSA maintains a safe, secure, effective U.S. Nuclear Weapons Stockpile, reduces the Global Threat posed by Nuclear Proliferation and Terrorism, and provides safe and effective nuclear propulsion systems for the U.S. Navy.

Duties

As a General Engineer you will: Provide technical oversight and direction, act as a principal contributor, or organize and accomplish program segments and/or team projects. Ensure contracted construction work complies with contract specifications, safety standards and programs, and requirements for documentation of records and drawings. Evaluate and approve reports, inspections, and permits, determining whether a facility is in compliance or noncompliance and the technical adequacy of actions taken or proposed by State regulatory agencies. Develop nuclear counter proliferation capabilities, tools and techniques to impede the efforts of proliferate nations to gain nuclear weapons program material and technologies.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e. NQ/NN/EN-02 or GS11. In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements (IOR), applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown in the professional and scientific qualification standards. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience devising, customizing, operating, overseeing, and/or evaluating specialized systems, processes, and applications pertaining to work and delivery of design, end products, or services. Examples of qualifying experience includes: 1. Conduct independent project reviews, analysis, and oversight of nuclear and nonnuclear projects valued at over $50 million including: technical, cost/schedule/risk, management & acquisition, environmental/safety & health/quality assurance, and commissioning aspects. 2. Ability to identify factors affecting progress to achieve established objectives; situations of noncompliance with legal requirements by specific plants; and solutions to resolve and/or mitigate specific problems or conditions. 3. Analyze, evaluate, confer on, and coordinate engineering, design, and construction work performed by other engineers, architects, and contractors. DO NOT write "see resume" in your application! General Engineering Physical Sciences Technical Competence Organizational Awareness "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Education

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

or

B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
