This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee WI, in the Rehabilitation and Extended Community Care (RECC)Division. The employee provides administrative support in the Office of the Division Manager, serves as a primary timekeeper for assigned timeand leave units within the Division and performs medical support assistant duties on in-patient units within RECC Division.
Duties
- Time keeping.
- Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to customers both internaland external.
- Maintain files and reports.
- Types in final form various memos, letters, or reports.
- Produces special projects as directed by Program Managers.
- Uses computers, Software applications, databases and automated systems.
- Assists in the development of procedures and programs.
- Ensure timely preparation of filing of records and reports.
- Identifies issues and analyzes information to draw accurate conclusions and uses logic and judgement to evaluate alternatives and develops solutions.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: The physical and mental status of the Program Support Assistant should enable him/her to perform all duties under normal and emergent conditions. The evaluation of an individual's ability to perform efficiently and without hazard to self or others will encompass a composite consideration of physical, mental, and emotional ability as related to realistic requirements for the duties and responsibilities assumed. The work requires carrying, pushing, pulling, and lifting of objects weighing up to 35 pounds. Walking standing, and bending are necessary physical abilities required for successfully functioning in the role.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of a full range of administrative support. Knowledge of timekeeping requirements. Knowledge and skill in the utilization of computers and related office machines. Incumbent must have a working knowledge in word processing, database management, desktop publishing and other applications as deemed necessary, utilizing a variety of software.. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial and technical school.
