The incumbent, a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), serves as a full-time assistant to the Chief, Respiratory Therapy and occupies a position with direct supervisory responsibility. The incumbent serves as a mentor to other staff and responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the St. Louis VA Medical Center.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: RRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G11. License: Must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current, and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT Education: Must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or its successor. Credential: Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs: Ability to plan and assist in the establishment of a completely integrated respiratory care program. Ability to recommend improvements based on evaluation of facility operations. Ability to supervise employees. Ability to manage the fiscal aspects of the functions supervise. Grade Determinations: At the GS-13 level, you must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Experience at the GS-12 level would include but not be limited to: Ability to assist in establishing a completely integrated patient care program. Ability to organize work, delegate tasks, evaluate performance, manage fiscal matters and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to supervise and manage subordinate employees. Skill in interpersonal relationships including conflict resolution. Ability to establish and monitor standards and priorities for production and patient care. Skill in recommending improvements to operations based on evaluation of data. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range is GS-13 Physical Requirements: Pushing/pulling up to 45 pounds, long periods of standing, walking and sitting with some bending. Manual dexterity, good vision and depth perception required.
