The Home Oxygen Clinical Coordinator is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with full responsibility for the administrative and quality assurance activities, day to day operation and oversight of the Home Oxygen clinic and reports directly to the Program Manager Respiratory Care and functions under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Pulmonary Medicine.

Duties

The position of Home Oxygen Clinical Coordinator will be multidisciplinary and include serving as a liaison between clinicians, patients in need of therapy with home oxygen, Prosthetic Service, and the oxygen vendor to facilitate the efficient, and cost-effective delivery of a variety of types of home oxygen delivery systems to outpatients with respiratory disorders. Other duties, within the scope of Respiratory Care, inclusive of Respiratory Care and Respiratory related research, as assigned by the Program Manager Respiratory Care. The incumbent may lead projects developing new policies, procedures or protocols. The incumbent serves as a member of the Respiratory Care Dept. at the VA St. Louis Healthcare System. The incumbent must be an experienced, clinically competent Respiratory Therapist, that possesses program management skills with a responsibility for assuring proper documentation and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The incumbent practices professionally, must be reliable, able to working dependently and be self-motivated. The incumbent serves as a mentor to other staff and responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the St. Louis VA Medical Center. Coordinate daily operations, develops and maintains policies and procedures for program operation and prepares reports and statistics for facility and Veterans Integrated Service Network use. Maintains a computerized database on all patients with respiratory disorders who require home oxygen, including relevant demographic area, diagnoses, pertinent historical data, current prescriptions, proper equipment and patient consultations. Documentation of oxygen compliance related issues into CPRS and notifies patients Primary Care Provider. Director as well as an Interdisciplinary Team. Serves as a critical member of the Home Oxygen Committee and assures Home Oxygen meetings/scheduled minutes are recorded and disseminated to all committee members and leadership in a timely manner. Documents the delivery of all respiratory care provided per established standard operation procedures. Ensures that the documentation of care provided is consistent with standard procedure and/or policy of the respiratory care section. The Respiratory Therapist takes responsibility for completing Consults received within CPRS. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: RTs/RRTs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. ? 7403(f). Education: Individuals must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor. Licensure: Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT. Credential: Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted NBRC credential of RRT May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level. Hold an active license and RRT credential. The following certifications are desirable but not required: a. CPFT, b. RPFT or c. RPSGT. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs: i. Knowledge of complex pulmonary function testing and stress/exercise testing. ii. Ability to maintain a quality control program related to pulmonary function testing. iii. Ability to treat acute complications for all pulmonary function testing. iv. Skill in performing polysomnographic studies to include obtaining both physiologic and diagnostic data. v. Skill in calibrating and troubleshooting polysomnographic equipment and physiologic and diagnostic monitoring. Preferred Experience: Applicants must possess at least one active, current, full and unrestricted certification to be eligible for appointment. Certification must be granted by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP), or another equivalent, closely related professional credential in special education or rehabilitation. English Language Proficiency: Ability to communicate in spoken and written English with patients and other health care personnel with sufficient fluency to satisfactorily carry out assigned responsibilities, in accordance with Public Law 95-201.
