This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Security Officer. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Deputy Chief of the Personnel Security Division responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating personnel security-related issues for Headquarters applicant, employee, and contractor background investigations. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Supervisory Personnel Security Specialist, GS-0080-15, your typical work assignments may include: Developing, issuing and implementing Department-wide personnel security and suitability policies and procedures. Executing a comprehensive personnel security program for the DHS through the administrative and technical supervision of specialists, assistants, administrative support personnel and contract employees. Collaborating with key agency officials to determine the budget, procurement, and allocation of staff resources. Performing the full range of administrative and technical supervisory functions for assigned subordinate staff. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Evaluating agency policies and procedures to recommend changes to personnel security programs. Overseeing operations of applicant background investigations. Adjudicating denials, appeals and/or revocation of security clearances. Evaluating work of subordinates to make decisions on work issues. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
