You will serve as a HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST (MILITARY) in the Navy Board of Decorations and Medals, Office of the Director of SECNAV CORB.

Duties

You will analyze military award nominations and recommendations requiring approval by the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), or Chief of Naval Operations (CNO). You will review the nomination package for compliance with the Department of the Navy (DON) military awards policy and Department of Defense (DoD) military award policy directives and award-related statutes. You will schedule and facilitate Board meetings where deliberation of high-level unit and individual awards (i.e. Presidential Unit Citation, Medal of Honor). You will ensure approved awards are mailed to the appropriate office or command as well as tracking presentation of the award. You will maintain consistent interactions with the CNO's Awards Branch, the Awards Branch of the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Navy Personnel Command. You will complete action on cases by ensuring permanent paper and electric filing.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously and changes in priorities with frequent interruptions; Experience interpreting and applying Federal (i.e., Department of Defense, Department of the Navy) award policies; Experience developing and maintaining effective liaison, interpersonal, and inter-organization relationships; and Experience presenting information to military and civilian officials (i.e., Flag and General Officers, members of the senior executive service). Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related
