Duties
Tests equipment by use of voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, and wattmeter for voltage, amperage and resistance.
Installs electrical wiring, conduits, switches, etc., and protective covering.
Performs installation, modification, repair, monitoring, operation and troubleshooting tasks on a variety of Building Utility Systems.
Performs repair tasks to include tracing and locating defects and performing loads and tests of new and existing electrical lines, circuits, and systems.
Installs, modify, repair, load, and test systems, circuits and devices, and determines, arranges, places, and routes distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections and controls.
Operates, modify, troubleshoot, repair a variety of electrical equipment/systems including Essential/Critical Load 480-volt 5,000/3,200/1,200 ampere switchgear, 2,500KW Load Banks, 2,500/750KW Generators, Power Distribution Units, Panels, Breakers.
Upon assignment to this position, employee must obtain and maintain a government driver’s license.

To qualify for an Electrician, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
I independently perform the more complex duties, such as planning, layout, routing, placement, and arrangement of systems, circuits and equipment; completes the installations, modifications, and repairs; and loads and tests systems, circuit equipment, and controls. Operating, and installing of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and control and the ability to plan, layout and complete the installation, modification and repair. Installation and safe operation of systems, circuits and equipment. Interprets and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Effort:
Required to stoop, stand, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts tools, parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items.
Working Conditions:
Works inside buildings and shops and outside. Subject to contact with dirt, grease and dust. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns, cuts and bruises. Working conditions are a normal part of the Job and are considered in the evaluation.
The incumbent of this position has been designated as an emergency employee. The term "Emergency Employee" is used to designate those employees who must report to work in emergency situations. Emergency dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to these employees. The employees who occupy these positions may be required to report for duty in any situation that prevents significant numbers of employees in the local area from reporting for work on time or which requires agencies to close all or part of their activities.
