This vacancy is for an IT Cybersecurity Specialist (Direct Hire) in the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) within the Department of Commerce.
Duties
As an IT Cybersecurity Specialist (Direct Hire), you will perform the following duties:
Designs and reviews requirements for technical projects to determine objectives of the program, concepts, nature of the unprocessed data, and process required in support of the technology effort in or organize work processes and problems for technology solutions.
Develops and formulates, with general guidance from senior officials, regulatory policy, evaluation of trade, including imports or exports, and remediation of technical and policy disputes between interested parties. Reviews prior regulatory or policy-related cases for precedent history, approvals, and denials. Resolves outstanding interagency issues, rarely involving senior Departmental officials.
Establishes and maintains contacts with manufacturers to provide technical advice for specific transactions and to remain informed on industry developments.
Develops, revises, and writes technical portions of agency guidelines that affect industries and other government agencies.
Serves as a technical expert on the facts and issues associated in computer cybersecurity in a wide range of technology and services under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce.

Basic Requirement:
Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

To qualify at the GS-13 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience working with network security and data related issues and
Experience in exchanging information in connection with cybersecurity requirements and preparing various reports, briefings and/ or summaries; and
Coordinating with team members on security engineering of the modernization of Information Technology (IT) systems and applications.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
