This position is located in a National Labor Relations Board Field Office. The field offices represent the actual operating arm of the Agency and the means through which both the Board and the General Counsel reach the public.
The incumbent performs developmental assignments intended to broaden their knowledge and skills to reach the full performance grade level. This is a career ladder developmental position leading to the full performance grade of GS-318-09, SPD0361.
Duties
As a Secretary (OA) GS-0318-8/9, your typical work assignments may include:
Compiling and analyzing various charts, tables, statistical reports and other data of Regional Office operations for use of the staff.
Maintaining the Director's calendar, scheduling appointments, establishing priorities, shifting appointments, making travel arrangements, etc.
Receiving walk-in visitors and forwarding internal, external, and long-distance telephone calls.
Reviewing outgoing correspondence issued by the Regional Director, prepared by the staff, for conformance to established office policies, practices, procedures, grammatical style, appropriate clearance, and transmittal of proper information.

Qualifications
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The ideal candidate for the Secretary (OA) (Regional Director Secretary) position has experience performing a variety of secretarial and administrative duties of an office. The candidate possesses analytical skills to compile and analyze various charts, tables, statistical reports and other data of the Regional Office's operations. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate both effectively orally and in writing. Experience of office automation systems and fully qualified typing skills to perform word processing duties are required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify at the GS-08 level
Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Secretary (OA) at the GS-08 grade level. Specialized experience includes:
Experience reviewing for accuracy, incoming correspondence; reports; documents for grammar and punctuation; and
Experience responding to internal and external inquiries and providing general instructions regarding activities of the office and/or agency; and
Experience maintaining and coordinating management's calendar of events; travel orders and arrangements.

To qualify at the GS-09 level
Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Secretary (OA) at the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience includes:
Experience independently monitoring and tracking all incoming correspondence and communications, and reporting the information to the appropriate parties; and
Experience coordinating outreach events and ensuring materials are assembled and distributed, and logistics (i.e. scheduled accommodations) are secured; and
Experience preparing statistical reports and other data for management; and
Experience preparing travel arrangements and itineraries for management and staff.

TYPING PROFICIENCY
This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Your response to the typing skill question on the Assessment Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT
All current and former Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year of experience at the GS-07 for the GS-08, or one year of experience at the GS-08 for the GS-09, or equivalent grade level of the federal service, is required to qualify for this position.
(NOTE: All current Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive).
NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
