You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will review and implement Hazardous Waste policies in alignment with regulations, standard operating procedures and instructions. You will replace all hazardous waste containers at designated waste collection locations inside operational buildings. You will ensure less than 90-day storage site inspections remain in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will support spill response team in containing and cleaning hazardous material releases on both water and ashore.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Ensuring hazardous waste is properly identified, accumulated, tracked, transported, and disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations; 2) Conducting environmental inspections, surveys, and site investigations to ensure compliance is within local, state, and federal regulations; 3) Identifying violations, providing recommendations to overcome violations, and preparing inspection reports; and 4) Gathering and analyzing environmental compliance data to prepare regulatory reporting in support of environmental media. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR
Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to this position being filled.
