You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will review accident prevention plans (APPs), activity hazard analyses (AHAs), and safety and health plans to determine acceptance with safety and health laws, regulations, and policies.
You will review Safety Management System objectives to identify and correct deficiencies in established programs.
You will perform site safety visits to evaluate conformance with project APPs, safety documentation, and other applicable safety and health guidance.
You will perform training, serve as initial point of contact for safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) questions, maintain Environmental Division APPs, and attend Command Safety meetings.
You will implement safety risk management through identification, assessment, and control of hazards, compliance deficiencies, and unsafe behavior.
You will assist in preparing briefings and compiling input for environmental safety data calls from internal commands and external organizations.

- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to complete training courses as delineated in OPNAVIST 5100.23 series and the NAVFAC Safety Community Management Plan.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of various environmental safety and health laws, regulations, and standards to support customers and meet mission requirements; 2) Performing site safety inspections and documenting adherence to site safety plans and applicable regulations; 3) Consulting and implementing processes to solve problems and help determine root causes for environmental program safety issues; 4) Providing and reviewing products and services for a variety of environmental programs (i.e., compliance, restoration, conservation, business office operations); and 5) Using oral and written communication to produce safety documentation, respond to data calls, and clarify, interpret, and advise on environmental safety laws, regulations, policies, and guidance.
