This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for the processing and handling of all Active and Reserve component general and flag officer nominations throughout the Joint Staff and Department of Defense (DoD) Agencies.

Duties

As a REQUIREMENTS SPECIALIST at the GS-0301-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Coordinate nominations through the Joint Chiefs of Staff and tracked through Secretary of Defense submission to the President of the United States, to the Senate and Senate confirmation. Serve as the action officer for all general and flag officer joint tour-length waiver and extension requests, joint duty representative requests for promotion boards, the Joint Staff general and flag officer representation report, and all public announcements for the Director, Joint Staff (DJS), and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) regarding general and flag officer matters. Develops and prepares information, correspondence, responses and monitors suspense on a variety of complex, critical and highly sensitive documents which require the DJS and/or the CJCS signatures. Analyze and synthesis information, write reports, and brief senior leaders in the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Defense Agencies and Field Activities and the Military Services. Provides information, recommendations, and participates in the development of Joint Staff general and flag officer management policies or procedures to implement new program requirements. Consults with all levels of management within the DoD and other federal agencies to ensure operational guidance is current, reflective of program objectives, and supports the goals of the Joint Staff and the DoD.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: Analyze and synthesize information, write reports and brief senior leaders in the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Defense Agencies and Field Activities and the Military Services Interprets policies and procedures governing Active and Reserve Component, joint (Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Marine Corps) General/Flag Officer (G/FO) management to help formulate legislation that may directly impact the general and flag officer population. Applies knowledge of program operation practices, tools, and methods to develop and manage programs that will further the 1- and 2-star nomination process. Utilizes strong written and verbal communication techniques to use tact and diplomacy and negotiation skills when working with management. Work effectively with office teammates and with counterparts in the Department of Defense (DoD) and outside agencies to prioritize tasks, deconflict competing demands, and complete tasks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
