As a Staff Assistant (Recent Graduate) at the GS-0301-9, you will be part of Office of Personnel Management, Merit Sys Accountability and Compliance. If selected, you will be performing a wide variety of administrative and technical duties essential to the operation of the office.
Duties
Plan and coordinates, manages the administrative operations of the office.
Analyzes clerical workload/workflow problems and procedures and offers recommendations for improvements.
Manages and monitors the flow and timeliness of decision packages and controlled correspondence within the Division, making sure all packages are delivered by the due date.
Serves as Division's liaison with staff on reporting timeliness and status of packages; and reviews decision packages and outgoing correspondence for conformance with regulations, proper format, grammar, punctuation, and completeness before giving to the Administrative Officer.
Independently returns correspondence to the originator for correction when it is not in conformance with known policies or correspondence regulations.
Advises and instructs subordinate offices through discussions with support staff to obtain a higher degree of compliance with general policies and correspondence regulations and timeliness.
Attends staff meetings and follows up to ensure that commitments made at the meetings are met.
Prepares a variety of correspondence, reports, briefing books, presentations, and talking papers using various computer software applications.
Provides phone and front office coverage and helps manage time by screening callers or visitors for requested information, resolving the request themselves, or routing the caller to the appropriate person.
Qualifications
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) in the following: 1) performing administrative functions and techniques; 2) providing support in logistical duties; and 3) ensuring the efficient operation of an office. OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree of LL.B or J.D. Such education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work include Public Policy, Finance/Accounting, MBA, Human Resources and Psychology. OR
A combination of education and experience to qualify at this level. To calculate your percentage of education, divide the number of graduate semester hours earned, in excess of 18 semester hours, by 18. If your education is in quarter hours, convert to semester hours by multiplying the number of quarter hours earned by 2/3rds. To calculate your percentage of experience, divide the number of months of full-time experience by 12. If your experience was part-time, convert to full-time by dividing the number of hours worked per week by 40 then multiply by number of months worked. Add the percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
To meet the Recent Graduate Program Eligibility requirements, you must have obtained a qualifying Associates, Bachelor's, Master's, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational or Technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, within the previous 2 years.
All Education must be accredited by an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.)
