About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Range Radio Controller with the US Army Installation Management Command Training Division Range Branch Operation Section Branch Fort Knox Kentucky.
Duties
Operate Range Control Communication Center to include three or more range-control radio nets to control all range functions.
Advise aircraft operating in the restricted airspace of any firing or training hazardous to flight.
Function as the Facilitates Unit Training Point of Contact (POC) for scheduling of all range training.
Operate a microcomputer to perform regular range operator duties.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A NACI (Tier 1) Security Clearance (With Criminal Background Checks) Installation Record Checks will be conducted every five years.
- Required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
- This position requires the incumbent to work a rotational and/or shift work schedule, operating 24 hrs a day, seven days a week.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes controlling access to a live-fire range; ensuring all personnel are accounted for and safe; managing safety data; relaying requests for firefighting support; confirming units adhere to weekly range bulletins; enforcing range safety.

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
