The Maintenance and Operations Supervisor position is with Engineering Service at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System at the Murfreesboro campus. The incumbent provides day-to-day supervision to first level supervisors of the plant operations and maintenance shops. The position requires the technical skills and experience of a general supervisor and the administrative skills to plan and coordinate maintenance; contract negotiations and solve both complex technical and administrative issues.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Evaluate work operations and review completed work and inspection reports to assure standards are met.
Provide technical expertise in the maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance to the steam generating plant.
Provide technical expertise in the operation, maintenance and preventive maintenance to a variety of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.
Provide technical expertise in the maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance to a variety of complex critical systems such as oxygen, central vacuum, emergency generators, plumbing, steam distribution, HVAC system, medical air and service air.
Provide technical expertise in the maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance to all building space (walls, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, and roofs).
Provide technical expertise in the maintenance, repair and installation of a variety of systems both mechanical and computerized through supervision of the Locksmith section.
Provide technical expertise in the maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance to a to a variety of electronic and electric equipment.
Provide technical expertise in landscape maintenance which includes establishing schedules for soil preparation, transplanting, fertilizing, pruning, shaping, watering, and applying insecticides and herbicides.
Coordinate work operations with supervisors of other organizations and/or functions.
Establish deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plan work assignments.
Track and report progress on work assignments.
Determine training needs of subordinates and provide and request arrangements for its accomplishment.
Maintain balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations.
Approve/Disapprove leave of subordinate supervisors, review personnel actions, approve performance appraisals initiated by them, and act on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors.
Recommend disciplinary actions, advise and counsel subordinates on how to improve their performance.
Redirect subordinates and resources to accomplish unanticipated work.
Analyzes work plans developed by subordinates supervisors and monitors the status of their work in relation to the overall schedule requirements.
Provides information and advice to higher level supervisors, management officials and staff organizations on feasibility of work assignments as scheduled.
A one year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Required to carry light to medium loads, using mechanical means for heavier loads. Works from ladders and scaffolding. Requires manual coordination, agility and good vision. Occasionally, the work requires working for extended periods of time in kneeling, stooping and other tiring body positions. Work is performed both inside and outside of buildings under dirt, dust and other adverse conditions. Incumbent is subject to ever present hazards of cuts, bruises, falls and burns. At times, incumbent may be exposed to asbestos, fiberglass and other related substances.
