This position is assigned to the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Service at the Richmond VA Medical Center. The incumbent functions as a Lead Medical Support Assistant with the primary to ensure the smooth operations of all aspects of outpatient scheduling, timekeeping, front desk operations, setting up new clinic grids and blocking and restoring clinic grids, encounter data validation, and patient notification of appointments.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for training all new and incumbent Advanced MSA and MSA staff on scheduling, timekeeping, and front desk operations.
Monitors and makes work assignment, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow.
Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting on going reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; and creating and maintaining employee work schedules.
Provides administrative support to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, diagnostic radiologic technologists and all other administrative and clinical staff.
Gathers and analyze information from a variety of sources and allocation that affect the daily operation of a multidisciplinary clinic.
Performs timekeeping functions
Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j.
Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, [customer service], or other
[administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and
skills needed to perform the duties of the position;
OR,
Education. One year above high school;
OR,
Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled which demonstrates knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics that are directly related to the specific assignment.
For GS 7, completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level and directly related to the position being filed.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-07. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-07.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary but also require some standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items.
