The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a member of the Air Force Communications Security Field Support Team as a subject matter expert. Provide Information Assurance (IA) procedural and policy guidance to AF COMSEC accounts, commanders and Headquarters Staff personnel. Implement security programs and supports AF special projects.

Duties

Serves in the Air Force COMSEC Field Support Office as the Air Force COMSEC subject matter expert. Provides procedural, policy guidance to Air Force COMSEC accounts, commanders and Headquarters Staff personnel. Implements communications security programs and supports Air Force special projects. Represents Air Force position at meetings, working groups, and/or conferences.

  • Work occasionally may require travel away from the normal duty station and may require travel on military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • (CONT) Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes experience in a wide range of security concepts, principles and practices to review independently, analyze and resolve difficult and complex security problems briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues and communicate complex COMSEC policies and procedures to non-technical personnel, supervisors, commanders and senior leaders; Application of a wide range of COMSEC concepts, principles, and practices to review, independently analyze, and resolve difficult problems, apply policy direction and develop guidance for applying COMSEC policy, procedures, techniques and methods to a variety of work situations and various levels or degrees of security control. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the operations, procedures, products, services, needs, and goals of the program(s) and the organizations studied or served, and the related customers, functions, resources, and users. 2. Knowledge of communications, computer, and information systems. 3, Skill in planning and executing complex, multi-faceted projects. 4. Skill in effective oral and written communication. 5. Ability to meet and deal with customers using a high degree of tact and diplomacy while maintaining good working relations. 6. Ability to recognize and analyze problems, apply rules, regulations and procedures, conduct research, surveys and inspections; summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
