The Chief Digital Health Officer is organizationally aligned to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Office of the Under Secretary for Health and serves as a key member of the VHA's Executive Leadership team and is the principal advisor to Under Secretary for Health, Deputy Under Secretary for Health and other key officials within Department of Veterans Affairs on all matters pertaining to digital health functions, strategy and transformation.

PHYSICIAN/DENTIST: SR-602/680 $145,000 - $310,000
HEALTH SCIENCE OFFICER: SR-601 $147,649 - $221,900
NOTE: For Physician - Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected. Exceptions to the salary cap must be approved.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week

The Chief Digital Health Officer serves as a key member of the Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) Executive Leadership team and is the principal advisor to Under Secretary for Health (USH), Deputy Under Secretary for Health (DUSH) and other key officials within Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on all matters pertaining to digital health functions, strategy and transformation.
The Chief Digital Health Officer is organizationally aligned to the VHA Office of the Under Secretary for Health. The responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Provides programmatic oversight, executive leadership and serve as the Department's representative on digital health strategy.
Responsible for integrating and resourcing digital health functions, providing a consistent approach to digital health integration, and establishing and implementing the VHA digital health transformation strategy.
Develop and implement strategy, policies, and procedures for the evaluation, implementation and use of digital health information systems.
Ensure VA is maximizing the potential for digital health technology to achieve excellence in Veterans and staff experiences, health outcomes, and access.
Collaborate closely with end users in the field and VHA patients to understand their needs and how VA's digital health solutions are and are not working for end users.
Oversee the design, standardization, deployment and implementation of digital health tools throughout VHA to augment the provision of whole health care for Veterans, caregivers, and staff.
Working in partnership with VA's Office of Information and Technology, ensure VA's digital health system architecture is appropriate for VA's needs with regards to usability, reliability and functionality for system end users.
Integrate VHA's varied and disparate digital health needs into a coherent and actionable set of digital health priorities for execution.
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICIAN SR-602
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA. Provide proof of this license in the application package.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association, or other residences which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided appropriate professional training.
Degree of doctor of medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of VA for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Demonstrated Leadership Ability
Physical standards: Must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: DENTIST SR-680
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Dentist must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA. Provide proof of this license in the application package.
Residency or Comparable Experience: Completion of an approved residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.
Degree of Dentistry: Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: HEALTH SCIENCE OFFICER SR-601
Successful completion of a Bachelors or graduate/higher degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health science, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position.
Master Degree is preferred

Expert-level knowledge of current concepts in health care such as communicating and providing guidance on national level health care policy to internal and external stakeholders, defining and evaluating new policy recommendations that directly impact health care provided to patients, overseeing senior leadership responsible for oversight of national health care facilities, analyzing information and data to identify improvement opportunities to reduce barriers to health care service, and developing treatment standards to monitor the quality of health care on a national level are also essential. delivery systems, and the ability to manage and direct a large health care facility.
