Duties
As an Epidemiologist, you will:
Serve as the Deputy to the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator, who is responsible for the oversight of all resources and international activities of the US government relating to efforts to combat malaria, including the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative (PMI).
Provide strategic technical leadership and direction for PMI in alignment with the vision and priorities of the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator.
Assist the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator with strategy development, objective setting, and identifying and addressing emergent priorities in close collaboration with the USAID and CDC Agency Leads.
Meet with senior government officials in PMI partner countries and at international venues to obtain first-hand knowledge of their concerns and needs to inform PMI priorities, and to reinforce efforts to accomplish PMI objectives.
Support the Coordinator in developing and strengthening relationships amongst key global malaria stakeholders, including donors and multilateral organizations, and in identifying potential new stakeholders for engagement, working closely with PMI Agency Leads and relevant staff across the Initiative.
Qualifications
Current or Former Political Appointees: Agencies must seek prior approval from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, or Non-career SES employee in the executive branch, you MUST disclose that to the Human Resources Office. Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service. Current or Former Political Appointees: Submit SF-50.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: planning, conducting, evaluating, and interpreting epidemiological studies related to global public health programming concerning malaria or other infectious diseases.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
