This position is located in the Economic Research Service (ERS), Market & Trade Economics Division, Animal Products and Cost of Production Branch. Applicants will be able to choose a location in either Washington, D.C. or Kansas City, MO.
In this position, you will be responsible for planning and carrying out a major area of outlook analysis relating primarily to poultry and egg markets, but your work could include analysis of other animal product markets.
Duties
Research agricultural policies, programs, economic conditions, and other factors having an impact on the current and future supply, demand, and structure situation, with implications for U.S. agriculture.
Provide professional knowledge of economic concepts, principles, theories, and techniques.
Analyze future supply and demand for poultry and egg products among principal countries leading to trade shifts between regions and/or countries.
Formulate research plans, develops methodologies, determines data needs, and initiates, directs, and conducts economic research and analyses.
Provides guidance in data acquisition, processing, and the development of analytical tools for poultry and egg market and policy issues, both domestic and international.
Respond to information requests from policy makers, the media, and the general public.
Provide relevant and timely input to ERS and USDA interagency outlook and market reports.
Serve as an advisor to Division-wide projects related to poultry and egg markets.
Interpret economic results for policy analysis and advises decision-makers concerning any policy ramifications of the analysis.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Basic Requirements:
Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
In addition to the basic requirements above, all applicants must also meet the following minimum qualification requirements:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-14 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-13 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience conducting economic research relevant to poultry and egg commodity markets; proposing research approaches and methods for testing hypotheses to include use of economic theory, relevant data, and empirical methods; and applying, developing, or leading agricultural models in applied work.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
