You will serve as a COMPUTER SCIENTIST in the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), Information Technology Department (N6), of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will serve as project leader in the planning, design, and/or implementation of an operational installation of an IT environment.
You will install and configure Linux/Unix based operating systems, Storage devices, and Virtual Server software as well as deploying and managing Virtual machines using Virtual Server software.
You will perform diagnostic test and analysis to determine system failures.
You will coordinate with NAVOCEANO Information System Security Manager to ensure Virtual Infrastructure, Linux/Unix systems, and Storage systems security and accreditation documentation are complete.
You will develop plans to incorporate new hardware and software into existing infrastructure.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience developing and reviewing system design to ensure computer processing systems fulfill organizational requirements and can be efficiently managed, minimizing labor requirements.
Experience in Linux/Unix based operating systems to include installation, configuration, data transport protocols, and secure cyber configurations.
Experience developing and managing various integrated technologies in support of organizational oceanographic production.
Experience developing and managing computer and technologies in support of near-real time and high-speed computational requirements.
Experience ensuring information assurance technical controls are implemented and verified for IT capabilities.

Education
Basic Education Requirement:
Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science
OR
Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
