The position is located in the Supply Chain Management Service (SCMS) at the Durham (NC) VA Medical Center. The specific focus of this position is providing assistance to the Office of the Chief SCMS in planning and administering the operations for the Service. The Program Support Assistant performs a wide variety of technical and administrative duties in support of Service operations and functions in the areas of Quality Management, Safety, purchasing, and control point (budgetary) activity.

Duties

Major Duties: Collects, compiles and/or tracks statistical information Prepares complex data and/or complex reports Uses statistical tools to track and trend issues related to program effectiveness and implementation Tracks achievements on performance measures , goals and objectives Uses software applications to draw information from a wide variety of sources in order to prepare reports, retrieve a variety of computerized data and establish protocols for incoming data Schedules meetings and updates the calendar for the office of the Chief Reviews outgoing correspondence for proper attachments or consolidating / coordinating submittal of information Receives and processes documents and reports in accordance with established procedures Serves as the primary timekeeper Researches files and assembles background information on the subject of incoming material prior to referral Promotion Potential: "Position is at the Full-Performance Level" Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, August 30, 2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience with clerical and administrative procedures, various office skills; and carrying out day-today administrative support activities; Working in an administrative position which required preparing correspondence, reports and graphs utilizing a variety of computer program. Skill in the use of a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other software applications; Interacting with executive leadership in the VA and private sector, contractors, staff members as well as Veterans, their family members and/or legal representatives; Provide/submit requested information to ensure all due dates are met in a timely and satisfactory manner; Managing a fast-paced office to include, establishing priorities, set up, reschedule appointments; Use own initiative to follow-up on action items and time-sensitive issues with appropriate staff members; Timekeeping duties in VATAS. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires minimal physical exertion, bending, walking, standing, sitting, and carrying of items. Requires good vision for some computer instrument interfacing functions, good manual dexterity and coordination, and may require occasional long periods of time on computer terminal keyboard.
