The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS) within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS). This position serves as the Program Support Assistant for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. The incumbent will assist management by providing a wide variety of administrative, clerical, and evaluative support for the service.
Duties
Duties include, but not limited to the following:
Assist management in developing and/or adapting office procedures and protocols to support the needs of the Service.
Provide administrative and clerical support for the Service.
Responsible for performing timekeeper functions, i.e., processing timecards, monitoring leave usage, and assisting with travel arrangements for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS).
Serves as P&LMS Records Liaison.
Obtains editorial approval from the Chief. P&LMS and/or Laboratory Manager for contents of each issue.
Utilizes knowledge of software programs, (i.e., Microsoft Office, Power BI, etc.) to prepare data and reports related to administrative, clinical, and technical aspects of initiatives.
Prepare typed memoranda, letters, and correspondence in final form ensuring proper structure, grammatical accuracy, presentation format and factual correctness bases upon the incumbent's knowledge of pathology and clinical laboratory operations.
Prepare newsletter and technical bulletins with information regarding laboratory procedure and instrument changes, updates in processes, training opportunities, weekly conferences, seminars, etc.
Assist management by compiling, organizing, and evaluating various clinical and program related reports.
Serve as a fund control point clerk by generating 2237s, assist management by certifying invoices, and assisting the Administrative Officer with tracking budgetary funds and other financial transactions.
Assist the Administrative Officer by collecting data for the operating budget and reviews submissions of P&LMS staff for proper format and compliance with agency budget requirements.
Assist management with the departmental safety program by organizing and conducting safety orientation for new staff and ensuring safety records are maintained according to P&LMS policy.
Assist the Safety Officer with safe work environment inspections and documentation of compliance with safety standards and patient safety/satisfaction goals, programs, policies and reporting mechanisms.
Performs other duties related to overall work of the position as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience with clerical and administrative procedures; carrying out day-today administrative support activities, preparing correspondence, reports and graphs. Utilizing a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and other software applications.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. On occasion, the work may require minimal physical exertion including bending, walking, standing, sitting, and carrying office supplies, and extended period of computer keyboarding.
