This vacancy is for an Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist (Direct-Hire) in the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) within the Department of Commerce. In this position you will serve as a senior technical subject matter expert providing broad specialized cybersecurity expertise to the Office of Information and Communications Technology Services (ICTS) program.

Duties

As an Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist (Direct-Hire), you will perform the following duties: Works with senior BIS leadership to design and review requirements for technical projects to determine objectives of the program, concepts, nature of the unprocessed data, and processes required in support of the technology effort in order to organize work processes and problems for technology solution. Develops and formulates, with general guidance from senior officials, regulatory policy, evaluation of trade, including imports or exports, and remediation of technical and policy disputes between interested parties. Designs, develops, and manages systems that meets future business requirements and applies extends, enhances, or optimizes the existing IT architecture. Exchanges technical information to understand security requirements or needs, coordinates and advises on work efforts, and resolves problems. Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools. Qualifications

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: Evaluating network systems and cloud-based software applications to mitigate or prevent cybersecurity risks; AND Leading or participating in computer cybersecurity projects to resolve problems consisting of various information technologies (IT) and services (that includes wireless networks, mobile networking, satellite communication, networking infrastructure technologies, or internet connected devices) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
