About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Transportation School Maritime and Intermodal Training Department at Fort Eustis VA. Fort Eustis, Virginia, is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. Local Transportation via the Hampton Roads Transit bus service is available to the surrounding area which includes Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Virginia Beaches, York County, Gloucester, Suffolk, and Smithfield.

Duties

The supervisor defines the objectives, priorities, and deadlines for tasks. The employee plans and carries out work resolving problems in accordance with policies and precedence. Employee monitors action and recommends improvements. New or controversial issues are referred to the supervisor. Work is reviewed for appropriateness and conformity with all regulations and policies. Processes a variety of military HR actions to include requests for Sea Time, licensing actions, recertification actions, transfer of personnel actions, separation and retirement actions, applications for certification. Prepares orders and validates requests for orders. Performs or oversees clerical tasks that follow: types of correspondence and forms in draft and final copy; posts changes to Army regulations and other publications; prepares and maintains functional files per the Army. May perform duties as the Unit Maritime Re-certification Examiner (MRE) proctor which requires travel to conduct testing.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires that the employee occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 30% of the time.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS6). Qualified Typist Requirement: In addition to meeting the experience or education requirements, for all positions titled as Office Automation or any clerical positions which has parenthetical title of Office Automation (OA), applicants must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute (wpm). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Human Resources Technology Usage Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty(30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
