THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number NGT6314000 and is part of the TN 134th ARW, Air National Guard.
This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 114 (Smoky Mountain Chapter).
Duties
As a FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT), GS-0081-07, you will provide fire protection, rescue operations, hazardous material response, and confined space rescue, for facilities with a variety of hazardous conditions as a crew member. Drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, or Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles. Respond to alarms and fires which may involve crashed and burning aircraft, equipment, structure and facility fires, fuel, chemical, or brush fires. Use chemicals, axes, bars, hooks, saws, gas masks and other fire fighting equipment to extinguish fires. Perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities. Perform fire protection inspections of maintenance shops; Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant (POL) storage and dispensing areas; combustible material storage areas; and impeded stairways and exits. Perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. Perform other duties as assigned.

- Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DOD Firefighter Certification system.
- This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training in one or more of the following areas: (1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. (2) Rescue operations. (3) Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. (4) Operation of fire communications equipment. (5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents. (6) Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention (7) Firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques; (8) Fixed and mobile firefighting equipment operation. (9) Planning, directing, or carrying out fire protection and prevention programs and operations and/or (10) Performing emergency medical services.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 12 months specialized experience in performing work to control and extinguish fires, rescue persons endangered by fire and reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards; control hazardous materials incidents; provide emergency medical services: train personnel in fire protection and prevention; operate fire communications equipment; develop and implement fire protection and prevention plans, procedures, and standards; and advise on improvements to structures for better fire prevention; training in support field that performs crash rescue and firefighting work, knowledge of firefighting terminology, requirements, procedures, operations, functions, and regulatory policy and procedural requirements applicable to fire protection and prevention; provides extinguishing fires, rescuing persons endangered by fire and reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards.
